Not to be confused with a glass eye.
I was cruising some of my favorite photography sites the other day and saw this thing called a “lensball”. Basically a generic name for a large (ish) glass ball, vary highly polished and suitable for some neat effects in photography. Google it.
I bought one. It was about 15 bucks or so on Amazon and got here today. So naturally, I have to take it out for a quick test drive. The picture to the right is the result with my phone.
This was just a quick snap from my front porch. No composition or planning. Hold the ball up, snap a pic with my phone.
Well in all the “stuff” I have read about using a lensball, no where did I read any warnings about it. Dangers. Potential hazards.
Now I am not talking about stupid warnings like on coffee cups from McDonald’s. Or my favorite, the curling iron warning that it is for external use only.
I mean, this is a 4 inch ball of glass. Why would it need a warning of any kind right? RIGHT!
Look at this next pic. Different focus. Please observe the bright glowing spot on my thumb. See it? That is a VERY CONCENTRATED AMOUNT OF SUNLIGHT.
Ever melt stuff with a magnifying glass? Me too. My fucking thumb.
