I have always found it odd for me to wish a Veteran “Happy Veteran’s Day”. I am a Veteran. For those of us who have been in combat, those that have supported us, we have a bond. A bond that goes beyond the title of Veteran. Those of us who are Veterans are generally proud of our service. We were happy to do what we did. No matter how glorious or mundane it might be. But I still have a hard time referring to them as Veterans.
Me personally, I call the brothers and sisters. Because what we did, created a bond between us that is hard to describe. My friend Phil Davis said it best. He was Army. I was Navy. But it didn’t matter. We were brothers. And we had a bond, not forged in the heat of combat, but in the oath, the willingness to do what was needed of us, no matter what.
So to everyone who has served in the past and to everyone serving now. As long as you are doing it honorably and to the absolute best of your abilities, THANK YOU. Yes you are Veterans. Yes, November 11th is to honor you. So I will. Happy Veteran’s Day brothers and sisters.
We know.
