Making a difference…

By Scott

Three young men, pre-teens and just-teens were concerned about gun/school violence.  They were moved by the events in Florida.  These young men, and I use the term “men” very purposefully, are hunters.  They are pro-gun and go hunting with their families regularly.  They know guns and gun safety.  They handle guns frequently.  But they were concerned about gun violence.

Prior to the “orchestrated walk out” that was scheduled for this week, these three young men decided to do something.  They approached their school administrator.  Principal.  They expressed that they were pro-gun.  They also expressed that they were ANTI gun violence.  Lastly, they said that they wanted to do something to bring awareness to the gun violence issue and they wanted to show support for the families of those murdered in Florida.  They did not want to “walk out”.

The administrator sat down with the young men and brainstormed an idea.  Together.  They came up with a presentation to be presented to the students and staff of the school that would discuss gun violence and pay remembrance to those killed in Florida.
It was respectful.  It addressed the concerns.  It paid homage to those killed.

Not one single student “walked out” of the school.  Nearly 1000 students.  Not one.

Three young men willing to speak up and an administrator willing to listen.

Where’s the media coverage?
