There are so many scenarios that could be discussed about a cashless society. But here are a couple of thoughts.
- Everything you purchase is tracked.
- Everything you purchase is recorded.
- Everywhere you make a purchase is recorded.
- Everything ABOUT the purchase is recorded.
So let’s move this into a scenario.
We move to a National Healthcare System. That means the government is running our Healthcare system. While they are not, officially, doing this yet, for the purpose of this discussion they are.
You are diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. (This one is personal for me). You are under a care plan for controlling the disease managed by your physician and health care providers. This plan includes dietary monitoring, medications, even exercise plans to help you manage your lifestyle. None of this is bad if you are following the plan (except WHO is managing it).
You and your friends are out at an event, and you decide to splurge on a funnel cake. No big deal, it’s just one and one won’t kill you (assuming you are actively participating in the healthcare program).
The vendor at the event, doesn’t accept cash. Only Cash App or Venmo or one of the other “cashless” payment options.
You whip out your smart phone, call up the app and send the vendor his $14 bucks for the funnel cake. Your cash app is sending money, identifying the vendor, the product and the government healthcare system and it reports your deviation from the approved and implemented healthcare plan.
What happens after that? Well. That’s completely up the the government. They cancel your healthcare? They charge you more money? Raise your healthcare taxes? With all of that information in one place… there is no limit to the actions that could be taken. Literally.
So this is why I try to shop local. And support businesses who take cash. Not because I am hiding anything. But because I don’t want anyone that deep into my business and it saves the business money for processing fees.
Shop local. Support local. Pay cash.
